Greetings! For this post we’re heading to Maryland, USA to hang out with my friends at Frederick Martial Arts in Maryland run by Jeff Chavez. I happened to come across this school by chance while travelling through Maryland, and am happy I made new friends! Lets get right to it:

Frederick, Maryland

Frederick is a city in Western Maryland known for its hills, open fields and civil war history. As I passed through the city I grew curious on what the martial arts scene looked like, which led to a spur of the moment invitation from Jeff Chavez, chief instructor at Frederick Martial Arts, to swing by.

Frederick Martial Arts

We arrived on a quiet late Saturday morning, in time to observe a children’s Karate class in session. I took some time to observe the venue, which in essence was a large space with glass windows that provided lots of sunlight. Jeff led the kids class while parents looked on in the background. Afterwards Jeff walked me through the history of the school, and his background with Karate, Taekwondo and other arts. We ended the visit with Jeff showing off his traditional weapons collection, and walking me through the history and technique behind tools like the Katana and Kama’s.

Check out the below video of Jeff sharing his knowledge of the Katana with me:

You can watch videos of Jeff educating me on his weapons on the Martial Arts Around the World tutorial playlist.

Check out the pics below for a few shots from my visit.

Big shout out and thanks to Jeff Chavez for opening his doors to me. Enjoy the video below that summarizes my time with Jeff and Frederick Martial Arts.
