Hello! I was in Glenview, Illinois recently and got the chance to observe a children’s Karate class at the Glenview location for Fonseca Martial Arts (FMA), a Karate school with branches across the Chicago area. Good times! A big thank you to Sensei Dejan Miloshevski who really went out of his way to accommodate my visit, and to Caitlin Krupinski, creative director & operations manager for FMA who made my visit possible! Let’s get right to it!

Fonseca Martial Arts

Fonseca Martial Arts was founded by John Fonseca, a 5th degree black belt who also happens to be the chief Karate instructor and owner of the company. John has a number of notable accomplishments under his belt, including being the only male Karate athlete in the world to win repeat gold medals at the Pan American games (’99, 03'). I loved his profile, and figured being a legit Karate veteran meant his team of instructors would be of the same ilk. And I wasn’t wrong: the Fonseca team of instructors is a rich mix of veterans, all seasoned with competition, refereeing and years of experience.

I visited the Glenview location for FMA on a quiet Tuesday evening. Glenview is a very picturesque village that many consider to be a suburb of Chicago. I made it in time to observe a children’s class taught by Dejan Miloshevski; an eager Macedonian 4th degree black belt. I must say that I really appreciated the white lighting at this location, and how clean the space was. Sensei Dejan was walking his kids through some Kata sequences. Check out the below pics form the trip.

I enjoyed my time hanging out with Sensei Dejan and the kids, and will definitely make it a point to visit them again. If you’re in the Glenview/Chicago area have an interest in Karate for yourself or your family, I recommend you check these guys out at fonsecamartialarts.com. Enjoy the below video that summarizes my time with Sensei Dejan and his kids:
